We are a young couple that wants to live in an ecological and healthy environment. For this reason, we have been volunteering in organic farms to learn more about permaculture, grey water recycling systems and green building.

Our dream is to build our own eco-friendly house by using natural materials. We have been greatly inspired by the natural building technique, Earthbag Dome Building. The Earthbag system was invented by an Iranian architect, Nader Khalili, as sustainable and earthquake-proof housing. The bags combined with barbed wire give the house incredible strength compared with other types of eco-building.

Domes are structurally much stronger than conventional wood and mortar built box structures. They use less energy to heat and cool than conventional structures and offer a more spacious feeling than the common square building.  Even more benefits include eliminating corners; therefore, contributing to improved air circulation, increased natural lighting and resistance to disasters. Under static load testing conditions simulating seismic, wind and snow loads, the tests exceeded the requirements by 200%!

We have spend many hours reading and studying about this method and now it is time to put our knowledge into practice! We have found a very informative workshop in Spain that may give us the experience we need, before we build our own house. Also, in the near future, we would like to use our experience to arrange workshops for others. We need your support to take this huge step to make our dream come true!
