Conservation lies at the heart of the Manda Wilderness communities of northern Mozambique. In response to the need for preserving the breathtaking environment in which the Manda Wilderness communities are situated, the Manda Wilderness Community Trust, a grassroots non-profit organization, has recently launched a new environmental education program.

Environmental Education Program

This program is a unique opportunity for children from primary and secondary schools in the Manda Wilderness region of northern Mozambique to engage in basics concepts of conservation, learn to appreciate the spectacular surrounding wilderness and lake regions and learn about the importance of preserving the environment around them. The importance of beginning programs such as these, starting early with new concepts in young minds in order to impact the evolution of their ideas and habits, is overwhelmingly apparent.

The program currently runs in several villages, with the support of two volunteers from France and two local villagers, Richard, who obtained his guiding certificate last year, and Joseph, who has several years experience in community development. Richard and Joseph are greatly committed to the protection and conservation of their homeland and this is evident in the way they prepare lesson plans and instruct children in the concepts on conservation. The Manda Wilderness Community Trust plans to eventually hand the program over to Richard, Joseph and the communities to run with minimal administrative support.

Contribute to Education

Please help provide children in Mozambique with an education in conservation, assist in supporting the appreciation of nature and enable local villagers to take control over conservation in the beautiful Manda Wilderness region!

The Manda Wilderness Community Trust, founded in 2005, connects some of the least supported communities in an isolated corner of Mozambique to engage in sustainable development projects; supports community events that provide training and foster unity in the region; and leads conservation in one of Africa’s last true wildernesses, working at the pace of local communities and encouraging active community involvement with the goal of improving their today and giving hope for their tomorrow.
