St Mathews Orphanage Center (SMOC), is located in Pyin Oo Lwin, Burma and is a long established organization supporting the local Kachin community. As Pyin Oo Lwin is located at the edge of the Shan plateau, about 3,300 ft, showering with cold water is a chilly business in winter and definitely not recommended for the infants. SMOC is expecting to receive a further 20 new children this year, in addition to the many dozens they already have. Solar Roots has offered to buy and install a very efficient solar water heating system so the kids can have warm showers, even in the coldest weather. We estimate the equipment cost to be around $1,500 and we are asking We The Trees supporters to go 50-50 with us and donate $750. Solar Roots, as a voluntary organization, will do the installation free of charge.
