PERMACULTURE ON A UKULELE?

After recognising a desperate need for permaculture to be shifted into the mainstream, I decided to write an album of songs covering the 12 permaculture principles in the hope of creating an accessible, entertaining educational resource that can be used in schools, colleges and permaculture institutes alike.

Permaculture really emphasises the importance of pattern learning and whole-systems thinking in developing the movement towards a more resilient future, and it made sense to me to put into practice the very principles at the core of permaculture in order to teach it to others through song!

HOW IT BEGAN

My first song '>No Such Thing as Waste, which was initially made as a bit of a fun experiment, being shot and edited by Wee Earthlings and animated by Oz Thomas has received an overwhelming response and over 10,000 hits on YouTube since it was made 8 months ago. It seems to have become something of a permaculture meme, being translated into about five languages and taught at various permaculture centres and schools around the world.

This has really given me the encouragement to write a song each for the other permaculture principles with the hope that I can really get some of these concepts stuck in the heads of whoever listens to them!

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

I’m now ready to record the songs and then film some video clips to be animated by the amazing Oz Thomas for the production of an educational DVD and CD album (working title: “Permaculture: A Rhymer’s Manual”… but I’m open to suggestions!)

At this stage I need to find $1500 for the professional recording, mixing and mastering of the tracks and $2000 for the filming and editing and animation of the clips.

If you’re able to help in any way (maybe you’re a film maker who lives in Perth?) your contributions will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance and I’ll definitely keep you updated through my website (currently under construction): www.permaculturesongs.com
