Brief note about situation

Wilpattu National Park (Willu-pattu; Land of Lakes) is a park located on the island of Sri Lanka. The unique feature of this park is the existence of "Willus" (Natural lakes) - Natural, sand-rimmed water basins or depressions that fill with rainwater. Located in the Northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka. The park is 1,317 square kilometers (131, 693 hectares) and ranges from 0 to 152 meters above sea level. Nearly sixty lakes (Willu) and tanks are found spread throughout Wilpattu. Wilpattu is the largest and one of the oldest National Parks in Sri Lanka. Wilpattu is among the top national parks world-renowned for its leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) population. 

In since 2010 this forest was faced to big problem. Local politicians and businessmen are influenced to forest's existence. They was using deforestation for build new houses projects and factories in the wilpattu forest. Approximately 3480 hectares were damaged and destroyed in during last seven years. 

The large number of animals and plants have already been destroyed. Elephant, Leopards and deer was included to this list. The wildlife is facing for a problem of food providing. According to this situation large number of animals are dying daily. Water resources was died. But still, the destruction were taking place. Forest was once a most beautiful but it has become now a desert. 

Sri Lanka is now facing a big climate issues in according to results of this deforestation. Seasonal split has changed. Rain happens very rarely. Air pollution has increased because large number of trees are cutting down daily. Then lung-related diseases spread rapidly. Disease related to kidney is spreading massively, because the water was polluted. And because of a lack of water resources to agriculture have a growing problem arises. Climate change has fully changed. Because that environmental destruction cannot retentive a small country like Sri Lanka.

Who we are


Since the beginning of this environmental crisis, so many organizations and youth teams are indicated their protest. They was indicated their protest to stop it with via rallies and demonstrations. However, our organization Oxygen for Future was chosen to separate path from the others. We are doing replantation and working for find solutions to this environmental problems. In past years we were planted large number of trees in countrywide. And also we were done many workshops in countrywide for providing to education of planting. Many young peoples was joined with around us and we are hope to continue to works for the future. 

Our Mission

Now we were planned to plant 10,000 of seedlings in Wilpattu forest. The program also are planning to replacement of dead water resources. And we look forward to build a small pond for water to animals. We firstly doing grow plants that can feed and growing quickly.  After this project, we hope to wild lives will have habitats, water and food for their existence. We believe that a lot of environmental issues will be reduced, the forest will be grown as before.
