In this campaign we are fundraising 25% of the course fee for a 8 week Farm scale & Professional Permaculture Design Internship Program at Ridgedale Permaculture in Sweden for a core team member of Common Soil.

25% ≈ $1400 ≈ €1235 ≈ kr 11.700

Common Soil is a vision for a new grassroots network of citizens that take actions to restore and steward living soil. It’s main feature will be Common Soil Campus & Academy. Common Soil Campus aims to be an international learning centre for regenerative agriculture, land restoration, regional food systems and land stewardship that aims to inspire the next generations of farmers and citizens to become stewards of living soil. From the campus, Common Soil will also coordinate education, trainings and events, as well as public awareness campaigns and communications, crafting a story of inspiration, restoration and hope. Read more

The campus is currently a vision, and we are hoping to realise this vision in the next two years. (2015-2016). Our main challenge right now is to find a suitable location. Do get in touch if you are interested and or willing to help! www.commonsoil.org

In the research phase of this project the core team consists of Pieter Ploeg (NL)Nakyta Grimm (CA) and Lyra Skusa (DE). We are graduates from the International Youth Initiative Program (YIP) and we have worked there for several years. We also co-founded and coordinated the Summer of Soil, and various other educational projects like Mission U, summer courses, leadership trainings, volunteer programs, learning journeys and conferences. We are currently building our capacity to run this project and a network of people to help us in this ambitious restoration effort.

Two of our team members, Nakyta Grimm and Pieter Ploeg are participating in an 8 week Farm scale & Professional Permaculture Design Internship Program at Ridgedale Permaculture in Sweden. Since we also have a 1 year old daughter together only one of us will be able to fully attend. Both of us will stay on the farm for the entire duration of the internship program.

This 8 Week Certificate training includes;
  • 90hr+ PRI (Aus) & PC Assoc (UK) certified PDC
  • Introduction to Holistic Management (Savory Institute Certified) & integrated Animal Systems
  • Keyline Design & Water Management
  • Agroforestry & Perennial Cropping
  • Annual vegetable production & Regenerating Soils
We have the opportunity to make time to work on one or more detailed personal design projects, with regular feedback from one of Europe's leading designers and practitioners. The primary educational objective is to specifically empower more people into farming & land based regenerative enterprises as well as supporting more designers to step up professionally tooled up with the right skills and attitude.

More about the training here

Total costs for the training are as follows:
  • Course Fee: SEK 36000 (€3860 or $4350) for 1 person
  • Transport: SEK 3000 (€320 or $360) for both of us
  • Food: SEK 3000 (€320 or $360) for 1 person
  • TOTAL: SEK 42000 (€4500 or $5070)
Nakyta and Pieter will put in 25% themselves. We have applied for a 25% interest-free loan and a 25% grant, leaving 25% to fundraise through this campaign. 25% comes to SEK 10.500 which is about €1120 or $1250. We are adding $150 for transfer fees and contribution to wethetrees.com

The money will be very well spent on this innovative and inspiring permaculture farm, and since we are 100% committed to put our learnings into practice through Common Soil afterwards, this is a direct and indirect investment in soil and land restoration, regenerative farming and scaling up of permaculture practices.

We are ever so grateful for your support, and we look forward to sharing our learnings and rewards with you!

Thank you for contributing,
